Will ultrasound tech tell me anything
Usually u/s techs can tell you the basics of what they see & point everything out, but they won't give you any official diagnoses. Every u/s I've had, they point out the sac, where the baby is, how big it is measuring, the heartbeat, the sex if it's later on, etc . In that case, you will have to wait for your doctor to examine the images
What can the ultrasound tech tell you? — The Bum
Imaging technicians, including ultrasound technicians, do not have the training and legal rights to diagnose and communicate with the patient regarding that diagnosis. Even if it is a general abnormal. Only licensed healthcare providers such as MD, DO, DC, OD, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants can diagnose While not all sonographers follow this rule, it is generally considered to be the most effective method of conducting an ultrasound scan. It is also important to consider that, in this day and age, the patient will likely be able to tell what is happening
How an Ultrasound Technician Does Their Jo
- I am an ultrasound tech. Typically a technologist is not allowed to discuss results with a patient. We are not doctors and giving a patient results is called diagnosing without a medical degree, which is illegal. That being said, this technologist did not seem to have a very good bedside manner
- That was extremely unprofessional of that tech. But I know it can be done quickly, the readings and such. When I had an ultrasound in 1999, I knew the tech saw something, but I did not ask her about it, and she didn't say anything. I could just tell by how she was doing the exam
- When I do ultrasound, if the tech doesn't tell me anything, I would be very worried, because if nothing abnormal, they wouldn't shut their mouth so tight ;) I'm crossing my figers for you...Monday...hope there is nothing too serious and you'll recover soon. Have a nice weekend
- With an ultrasound tech I don't think they are able to tell you if something is wrong. They would either have the doctor come in if they saw something wrong or the doctor would call you as soon as they got the results. If something was wrong they wouldn't wait to notify you. I wouldn't be worried
- The tech cannot tell you ANYTHING. Its against federal and medical rules. They try to make you feel as secure as they can but no matter what they cant do it. Now when I had two ultrasound there was a specialist come in and they were talking about what they saw like I wasnt even there
- It may sound strange, but the techs (xray, usltrasound, etc) have to know enough about what they are doing to tell what is normal, what is abnormal, and what is questionable. that is so they can adjust the equipment, views, recordings and anything else that needs adjustment so that the doctor that will read the results will have everything needed without ordering another test
- Oh and forgot to say Chundle, yes they will check everything within their limits so probably liver, gallbladder (and associated ducts), kidneys, spleen, pancreas (hospital policy varies slightly). They may also scan other areas if they feel it would be useful. Be aware that ultrasound is not used to image your stomach or bowels
Why can't an ultrasound technician tell you if they see
- I had a radiologist come in to discuss some things after the ultrasound tech finished an emergency ultrasound. I have a few pockets of blood and fluid in my uterus. He also said that the OB would discuss in more in depth with me. He knew what he was seeing but could not tell me the implications
- al ultrasound is to check the morphology (which is the form and structure of main internal solid organs) in your abdo
- ed. Your doctor may tell you to fast for eight to 12 hours before your ultrasound.
- Our techs here really can't tell you anything. They're not trained for that. If they told you everything looked fine and then the radiologist saw something wrong, they'd be in a lot of trouble. All our tech told is was things to explain the baby's position and body parts, nothing about HOW baby was
- The ultrasound tech didn't let me see the screen and told me that the doctor would be calling before my follow up appointment on the 5th of November but she said she didn't see anything really concerning. She left the pictures on the screen and turned it towards me to look at when she walked out for me to get dressed
- If they do not find anything on the ultrasound, what should I ask for or do after that? I'm not a real assertive person so I really need the courage to tell my doctor I want more testing. When he wrote me the referral for the ultrasound, he said If we don't see anything on the ultrasound, then we'll be done with the tests
- An ultrasound technician will be able to tell the gender of your baby during the anatomical survey of the fetus, though, sometimes, it can be done earlier. Most of the reason it takes time to reveal the gender is due to the positioning of the baby in the womb
I knew something was up as that's not normal for me, so saw the doc in Feb, who referred me for the ultrasound. I'd convinced myself that my symptoms pointed to endometriosis, so when the ultrasound technician mentioned that I'd be referred to a gynaecologist to talk to me about my uterus lining, and she seemed surprised that I hadn't been.
